Boring Moorings

Driving down the street one early Sunday morn, from a distance I could see two figures plotting along. As the distance was closing I could see that they were some kind of a fowl but I could not figure out what breed they could be. The birds trudged like two drunken sailors with two webbed feet which were not made to walk the streets. They had long necks that undulated to and fro and their white feathers looked in distress, not combed at all.

Finally it hit me what kind of birds they could be. They were Swans that were out of place, but the question is why these graceful feathered friends would escape a place that would exhibit their grace.

As I began to think of the vicinity we were at, the Swans were not far from home, I’m sure the "Moorings" is the place they called home.

The Moorings is a place that comforts the older generation that can afford to live their golden years in happiness without disgrace.

So why would they flee from a heaven like this, when all the swans have to do is pirouette in the water and create hearts with their mate.

I guess these Swans decided to flee the Moorings and find their own fate, for there must be more to life than to swim around in one place and entertain the elderly who are waiting to enter the pearly gates.

A Crows Friend

Early in the morning when I had nothing to do but step outside, welcome an other day and take my daily breath of fresh air, I noticed a piercing stare by a villain like eye.

Sitting on a branch almost atop of an aging tree was a dark, pointed beaked and motionless bird peering down on me.

I had seen this sinister looking bird before but today he peered into my eyes and I heard him say, “Watch me fly!”

He started unfolding his shadowy finger like jet black wings and pointed them down on me.

He then began to cry out, “Don’t be afraid, wait for me, Watch me fly!”

His body seemed to bungee jump from the branch before his wings began to flap. The Crow was diving down on me and I didn’t know what  would be.

Then I heard the swooping bird say, “Wait don’t hide!”

“Would you run if I were not as dark as a moonless night, but instead I were blue or red and sang out your favorite tweet?”

I listened in disbelief to what I thought I just heard, but I stayed motionless just to see what this bird had in-store for me.

This stealth like bird continued to dive but to my surprise glided gently on my shaky shoulder and began to whisper in my ear, “ So glad you waited for me, for we all need a special friend and so do I.”

How did this Crow that I will call “Gene” know that this day I needed a special friend?

Shivering Sparrows

The sun is shining and there are no clouds in the sky.

The ground below has an empty palette of color because the clouds have fallen and turned into a frigid snow that covers everything that used to hold the Sun's Warm Glow.

Sparrows hold tight to brittle branches and  their fluffy feathers shaking in the breeze. They seem to be homeless and unlucky to be hatched in a world that they have to search for a place to eat, not to mention a warm place to sleep.

The Sparrows do not tweet because they don't have enough to eat. If they try to sing out a tune the notes freeze and fall to the ground and no one notices that they are around.

It doesn't seem fair that these tiny feathery friends shiver throughout the day, fight for life at night and some golden feathered  sparrows spend their life at a resort.

I guess we are not too different from all the birds that flock together but never get a chance to fly together.

Just Smile

My happiness is always inside of me and all I have to do is smile and it brings up a breath of fresh air which ignites the happiness that is all around me.

Happiness takes on many forms but it always gets the same results,

a tingle in the heart, a breath of fresh air that filters through your body and gives you a glow within.

A smile is a treasure that everyone has but sometimes we forget that it is the key that opens the chest of life.

THE COLORS OF SUMMER

As I slowly open the shades of our patio door, I see the first snow of the season and it has taken away the colors of the other day. There is a cotton like blanket that covers almost everything that wants to grow, but it looks like the answer is "No". The only hope is that the sun decides that this is not fair.

To my delight the rays of sun break through the grayish sky and begin bringing back the colors that have been stollen from my eyes.

The colors seem to be more vibrant as they push back the seasoning salt like snow but as you know the battle of the seasons has just begun and soon all the colors of Summer will disappear as though they were  on the run.

It doesn't seem fair but the cycle of seasons always has the upper hand.

Fathers's Smile

Being a father makes life much easier.

It gives fathers a reason to do all the things that are difficult in life and smile at the end.

Doctor in the Sky

Finally the sky is a December blue and it allows the sunshine to come through. Hopefully it will erase an early November snow that came through. The ice and snow that injured some trees has made them no longer stand erect  but now they are bent over sighing and praying that nature can undo the icy misfortune of last month.

There is no quick remedy to heal the brittle branches that hang limp from the somber trees but as each day goes by the skeleton like branches start looking spry.

There is New Life sprouting  on the bony limbs and as each day goes by they keep reaching higher into the sky.

The trees no longer seem to be in pain and  there is an emergence of emerald like pellets on the branches that shimmer in the morning sun. The fragile brittle branches that seemed to have been withered away are now standing in attention and saluting the Doctor in the spring sky.
